Angela Evelyn Bassett is an American actor from the United States. In the last decade, Angela Evelyn has worked on film and television. The actress has won several awards, among them sixteen NAACP Image Awards. Bassett is originally from New York New York. She was born in Winston-Salem North Carolina. At the age of Bassett was five years old, she and her sister moved into St. Petersburg, Florida to live with their mother, who was divorced from their father. Bassett when she was in high school was a fan of John Steinbeck's play Of Mice and Men with James Earl Jones and she made the decision to pursue acting. She was a student at Yale University New Haven Connecticut receiving a bachelor's degree (1980) with a major in African American studies and a master's degree (1983) from the Yale School of Drama.
